Two ways to buy

New or second-hand?

Two different decisions, with different risks. Read the one that fits you.

Brand new (0 km)

Buy directly from authorized dealerships in Turkey. A wide variety of international brands have active local dealers. Prices move with currency exchange rates.

  • Check fuel consumption, transmission type, and country of manufacture before buying
  • Diesel with automatic transmission is usually the best value
  • Full manufacturer warranty applies
  • We help with dealer negotiation and registration

Second-hand

Significantly cheaper than new. You can also buy tax-exempt foreign-plate cars (Yabancı plaka) — but note these can only be resold to other foreigners. Always get an Ekspertiz inspection before buying.

  • Always request an Ekspertiz report (professional inspection company)
  • Verify all taxes and fines are settled by the seller
  • Avoid cars older than 10 years
  • Transfer payment through bank accounts for traceability

Before you buy

The checklist every buyer needs

Buying a car in Turkey has rules that differ from Iran. Here's what matters most.

  1. 1A car in Turkey is not an investment — unlike Iran, cars depreciate. Buy for personal use.
  2. 2You must have a valid Turkish residence permit to buy a car.
  3. 3Register the car at a traffic office within 3 months of purchase.
  4. 4Always transfer payment through your bank account — cash deals can't be traced.
  5. 5Ask the seller to settle all outstanding taxes and fines before transfer.
  6. 6For second-hand cars, always get an Ekspertiz inspection report.
  7. 7Avoid buying cars older than 10 years — repair costs escalate significantly.
  8. 8Foreign-plate cars (blue plate, MA/MZ registration) are tax-exempt but can only be resold to other foreigners.
  9. 9A foreign plate's validity is tied to your Kimlik — if your residence expires, using the plate incurs fines.
  10. 10Annual road tax (MTV) is mandatory — plan for it as a recurring cost.

Common questions

Questions buyers ask us

Do I need a residence permit to buy a car?

Yes — you need a valid Turkish residence permit (ikamet) to purchase and register a vehicle.

What is an Ekspertiz inspection?

A professional vehicle inspection by an independent company that checks for mechanical defects, accident history, and paint damage. We strongly recommend it for every second-hand purchase.

What is a foreign plate (Yabancı plaka)?

A blue licence plate (MA/MZ registration) issued to foreign residents. These cars are tax-exempt, but can only be sold to other foreigners, and the plate's validity is tied to your residence permit.

Can I drive with my Iranian licence?

You can use an international driving licence for 6 months. After that, you need a Turkish licence — we help with the full process.

Is buying a car a good investment in Turkey?

No. Unlike Iran, cars depreciate in Turkey. Buy for personal use, not as an investment — property is the investment vehicle here.
